Crocodile Pose
April 26th, 2007Crocodile is an easy and fun pose. Children lie on the tummy with their arms stretched out in-front, some like to clap the palms of their hands together to make snapping noises.
If you don’t snap your hands together, it doesn’t matter, the important part of crocodile pose is that it is a very small back bend that is created when a child lies on their tummy.
With the younger children, I use crocodile pose when singing row row your boat usually there are some boat poses in the room and some crocodile poses as we sing.

For older children we play a game called upset the crocodile.

I love teaching the crocodile pose because it can be a really wonderful way for younger kids to gain an experience of breathing into the backs of their bodies and feeling the ribs through their backs opening and expanding with each breath.

Exactly and usually it is easer to see the movement of the back when a child is in crocodile pose than it is to see the movement of the tummy when they are in cloud or relaxation pose. If you want childrens to see other childrens breathing crocodile pose is a good one to do it in because as they lie on their tummys there is no where else for the breath to go but into their backs.
