I went to a yoga class and I did….

March 15th, 2007

A wonderful old favorite in children’s games is the game “I went shopping and I bought a……”
The game is played by the children sitting around in a circle:
The first child of the circle says “I went shopping and I bought an (fills in the blank with something you can buy from a store) apple.”
The second child says “I went to the store and I bought an apple (says the thing the first child bought and adds to it) and a pair of gloves”
The third child says “I went to the store and I bought an apple, a pair of gloves (and adds on their own thing)”

and so on and so on until all the children have had a go.

I have turned this game into a children’s yoga game for example

The first child – I went to a yoga class and I did cat pose
The second child – I went to a yoga class and I did cat pose and tree pose
The third child – I went to a yoga class and I did cat pose, tree pose and cloud pose

With the yoga version, I usually get the children not only to say what pose they did but also to demonstrate the pose and all the previous poses from the other children in the group.

Not only is this a fun game to play with children, but also it keeps them moving and helps to improve their memory and listening skills. An ideal game to try at yoga parties.

Other children’s yoga games you can play are … Giants treasure, Yoga poision ball, Musical Mats, Triangle Tiggy, Upset the crocodile, The knot, I went to a yoga class and I did, Yoga heads

That game sounds like a great way to get kids active. It’s a lot better than video games!

Have I told you about the Yoga Forums yet?
